Fried Plantain

Kızarmış Plantain

I always see plantain in the supermarkets. Finally I tried. It was an interesting experience.

Fried Plantain

I did not know that the plantain I bought was raw, and I need to wait for quite some time. When I fried them, there were still some raw parts. I should say that eating a raw plantain was not a big pleasure, even it was cooked.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe platain
  • 1 egg
  • spices
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  1. Peel the plantain, and slice it horizontally.
  2. Beat the egg. Add spices you like and salt.
  3. Cover the slices with egg.
  4. Pan fry both sides for 2-3 minutes.

Hi, this is Carlos from Colombia, which is a country well known by the quality of their coffee and plantains.
I just read this note and I want to say that you could prepare the plantain in many ways.First, we have to remember that a plantain is very different to a banana. You could cook it, the plantain, even if it is green or yellow. The green one is more for a salty use and the yellow one for a sweet use. Well, if you want to fried them, you don’t need add eggs, I have never tried that way, just slice them and fry them maybe 3 or 5 minutes.
With the green one, you have to put them out for a moment, squash them, and then fry again around 2 minutes more in order to cook them a little more.
Another delicious way to prepare it is in the oven, cut vertically just the enough to put inside pieces of cheese and something sweet like honey, jam or “bocadillo” (a colombian sweet). It takes around 30 minutes I think.
    Bye.
