Pea Soup

Bezelye Çorbası

Once I bought a bag of dried peas instead of lentils. I love lentil soup, and I was very happy that I finally found green lentils. You can imagine my disappointment when I realized the mistake.

Pea Soup

After looking for dry split pea recipes, I decided to make the soup with peas instead of lentils. The soup tasted good and I kept the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dry split peas
  • 1 medium size onions
  • 1 tbsp rice
  • 1 medium size potato (diced)
  • 1 medium size carrot (sliced)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2-3 cups of water (if necessary can add more)
  • Vinegar and chilli sauce (optional, for serving)
  1. Wash split peas with cold water, and soak them in water for couple of hours.
  2. Wash the rice with cold water.
  3. Put all of the ingredients in a soup pan.
  4. Over the medium heat bring the water to boil.
  5. Keep adding water until the potato and carrot slices become tender.
  6. Turn the heat off, and let it cool for half an hour.
  7. Using a food processor, or a simple mixer crush all the ingredients.
  8. If necessary add a little more hot water to dilute the soup.
  9. Serve with vinegar and a little chili sauce.
